Speedy HMRC clearance for victim of sexual harassment
At Farore Law, we recently acted for a client who had suffered serious sexual harassment at the hands of her billionaire employer.
Suffering from complex PTSD as a consequence of the abuse, we applied for the sum we secured for her to be paid to her entirely free of tax, under the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003.
The sums were placed in escrow, not least to protect the money as the former employer was outside the UK jurisdiction. Once in escrow, we made an application for clearance, under the 2003 legislation, to HMRC (with the written support of the former employer being a term in the settlement agreement).
We were very pleasantly surprised to find the clearance approval came back within 4 weeks of the making of the application. One Government department working very well!
At Farore Law we have a great deal of experience in working in such matters, and strive hard to achieve the best result possible within the jurisdictional and tax regimes available.
